Awakening cooldown: 90s to 60s in Korea
✍️ Alice・愛麗沙
Korea’s S2 “Light and Dark” patch (2026-06-25) cut the awakening skill cooldown for every class, server-wide, from 90 seconds to 60 seconds — not a single-class balance pass, a change every class gets identically.
What this means for you today: this is a nothing-to-prepare-for, nothing-to-stockpile change — the awakening cooldown cut isn’t a new system, it’s TW’s own existing awakening mechanic’s “90 seconds” number eventually becoming “60 seconds.” A separate, unrelated rule already exists on the gear side: awakening armor runes are unique-equip (only one worn at a time), so a character picks between 첫 번째 서약 (light-aligned) and 교차하는 사슬 (dark-aligned); 별바라기 functions like a 2-slot 용문장 equivalent for this purpose. That choice doesn’t change because of the cooldown cut — whichever rune you picked, its effect just triggers more often.
What it is: a number that gets smaller, not a new system
| Item | S1 (current) | S2 (Korea) |
|---|---|---|
| Awakening skill cooldown | 90s | 60s |
Applies server-wide, not to one class. On the gear side: awakening armor runes are unique-equip (one only) — a character picks between 첫 번째 서약 (light) and 교차하는 사슬 (dark); 별바라기 functions like a 2-slot 용문장 for this purpose. Source: 自有研究紀錄.
this site’s own research record classifies this as a system-level change, not a per-class balance adjustment — every class gets the same 90-to-60 cut. No new skill is added, and the strength of the awakening buff itself doesn’t change — only how often you can trigger it again. What this means for your rotation: more casts, not a longer window
It’s easy to misread “cooldown reduced” as “awakening lasts longer” — it doesn’t. Cooldown is time-to-reuse; duration is a completely separate number, and this S2 change only touches the former. The window itself isn’t wider — the same-width window just opens more often.
The arithmetic makes it concrete: take a fixed 3-minute (180-second) fight. At a 90-second cooldown, you can trigger awakening at the start of the fight and again at 90 seconds — 2 casts. At 60 seconds, that’s 0, 60, and 120 seconds — 3 casts. Same fight length, cast count goes from 2 to 3, a 50% increase in frequency. That’s the real, useful implication here — if a class’s damage cycle is built around its awakening window, that window now recurs more tightly, and the timing of every other cooldown stacked around it needs re-checking against the new interval.
Gear choice doesn’t change: awakening armor runes stay unique-equip
Separate from the cooldown cut, but often mentioned alongside it, is a pre-existing gear rule: awakening armor runes are unique-equip — only one can be worn. A character picks between 첫 번째 서약 (light-aligned) and 교차하는 사슬 (dark-aligned); 별바라기 is the exception, described in the source as functioning like a 2-slot 용문장 rather than the single-slot rule — no source reached this pass explains why 별바라기 specifically gets this treatment.
The choice itself isn’t affected by the cooldown cut. Whichever rune you’re running, light or dark, its effect just fires every 60 seconds instead of every 90 — the criteria for picking between them hasn’t moved.
What to actually do about this on TW today
Honestly: nothing. This isn’t a content drop that needs stockpiled materials or early mechanical familiarity — it’s a numeric adjustment to a mechanic TW already has. TW’s awakening system already exists; the number attached to it is just still 90 seconds. There’s no prep step to take before TW reaches S2, because there’s no prep step that exists — this isn’t like Guild Ship, where a leaked materials list meant stockpiling lumber early actually mattered. This is a server-side parameter that just changes when TW’s patch lands.
The usual “safe to ignore” section would normally follow here, but there isn’t much to safely ignore this time — there’s no premature detail to over-study, because there isn’t one. The honest version of this section is: this guide has no checklist, because there’s no checklist to give.
What would change this advice
Being honest about the biggest risk in any forward-looking guide: what Korea has is never a guarantee TW gets it unmodified, or on any particular schedule. Our own Guild Ship article already documents the receipts: Korea opened guild ships 2025-08-21; TW had a brief, accidental 19-hour opening on 2026-08-05 followed by an emergency rollback the next day, and as of this writing — a year later — guild ships still haven’t formally launched on TW. TW’s first legendary-fashion wave also skipped straight to Korea’s round 5, proving Korea’s own release order isn’t a promise either. Lag predicts the shape of what’s coming, never a date.
Applied here: this advice holds up precisely because it doesn’t depend on this change arriving on schedule — “there’s nothing to prepare” stays true no matter when the cooldown cut reaches TW. The only thing that could actually go stale is the 60-second figure itself, if Korea’s own number moves again before TW reaches S2.
Our take
The one sentence worth keeping from this: this is a change that asks nothing of TW players. No materials to stockpile, no gear decision to re-plan, no timing to get ahead of — it only raises how often awakening fires, without touching the effect itself or the gear rule around it. What’s worth remembering is the cast-frequency math, not a countdown: whenever TW’s own 90 seconds actually becomes 60, this article’s arithmetic carries over directly.
